SAILING-CLASSICS SAFETY
Safety on board
Your safety always comes first and above all with us, and we, as a professional commercial cruise sailors, are very different from the leisure sailors. It begins with a professional crew: The captain and first mate were required to have completed a maritime school and can pilot a large cruise ship with their top-notch ability.
In addition, for the deck crew, the demonstrated sailing qualification, and ongoing safety training for all crew and guests.
The ships themselves have been built and tested to the latest, very high Dutch safety standards and are approved for worldwide travel. Despite their speed, they sail with extreme stability and safety with hardly any water on deck even in the worst weather. All our ships are inspected and approved annually by the authorized classification society (a kind of official certification).
The extensive safety equipment, from life rafts to a radar 96 nm, an emergency generator, radar buoys (EPIRB and SART), satellite and radio equipment, as well as emergency medical equipment, fire protection systems and comprehensive emergency plans contribute to the high safety standard. This equipment is also inspected annually. Just as important, should something happen: With us, all guests are insured according to the international standards for cruise and passenger ships, and not – as co-sailors – self responsible, as usual with charter yachts.
