SAILING-CLASSICS MEDITERRANEAN CRUISES
Italy & France: Sardinia, Corsica, Elba
Sardinia and the wildly romantic and exclusive Costa Smeralda with turquoise waters, bays and incredible rock formations, the La Maddalena archipelago and the coast and bays around Bonifacio are the dream area in the Mediterranean. With our favourite bay 'Licia' at Porto Bello and the rock formations at Cabo Testa, the northern tip of Sardinia.
The region also attracts culinary delights – the delicious Vermentino, the white wine of the Gallura in Sardinia, and the local Pecorino cheese are like a good poem.
We start in the bay of the Golfo di Marinella near Porto Rotondo, about 20 km northeast of Olbia, and sail north along the Costa Smeralda, the most famous coastline of Sardinia. White beaches, bizarre cliffs, small bays and, above all, the emerald-green shimmering sea in the sun – it is no coincidence that the most exclusive hotels on the island are here in Gallura.
We sail further into the varied territory of the La Maddalena Archipelago, today a 20,000 ha national park above and under the water.
On the way to Corsica we cross the Strait of Bonifacio, where dolphins often accompany us. The entrance to Bonifacio is breathtaking – a natural fjord-like cut between high chalk cliffs, the 60 m high on a plateau place crowns a magnificent citadel.
With good wind conditions and alternating with the shorter route to Bonifacio, we also sail along the Corsican east coast to Elba, which alone is worth a trip!
